Rio Carnival expected to draw millions of visitors

February 28, 2014 - BRAZIL

2 million or more visitors are expected to enjoy the spectacle of the floats and feathered, sequined and extravagantly voluptuous dancers in the hard-fought competition between the city's traditional samba schools.

Rio is reported to be cleaning up for the World Cup, so Carnival visitors will find less litter. They might be forced to enjoy a little less voluptuousness if the Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel samba school recruits the dancers it wants. Agence France Presse reported in Dec 2013 that the school is advertising for 20 dancers "with beautiful and natural" breasts "whatever the size." Breast implants account for most of the voluptuousness at an event regarded as the least inhibited in the world, a draw for both the visitors and millions of television viewers enjoying the parades through the Sambadrome. Should Mocidade's quest become a trend, future visitor and viewer numbers will gauge whether breast size matters.
