An event to mark the 52nd anniversary of Israel’s declaration of sovereignty over the Golan Heights is expected to include the naming of a town in the territory after U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced support in March for Israel’s claim to the territory.

Nearly all countries regard the Golan Heights, part of Syria until the Arab-Israeli war in 1967, as Israeli-occupied territory.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the move as a gesture of appreciation for Trump’s announcement.

Israeli publication Haaretz reports that the community, the first new Jewish community established in the Golan Heights since 1999, is expected to house 120 families in the first stage.
