Reeva Steenkamp, the lawyer and model killed by Paralympian Oscar Pistorius at his home in Pretoria in 2013, would have turned 33 on Aug 19. Her parents plan to mark the day with the launch of the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation.
It is aimed at furthering Steenkamp's campaign against the abuse of women and children, according to the foundation web site.
News24 reports that she was killed on Valentine's Day in 2013, the same day she had been scheduled to deliver a speech at a local Johannesburg school about the abuse problem.
Her parents told the South African publication on Jul 21 that they support a new attempt to see Pistorius serve a longer sentence than the six years handed down on Jul 6, the latest ruling in the drawn-out case.
He was convicted of manslaughter in 2014 after months of hearings, but a higher court reversed the conviction. The latest sentence followed the murder verdict of 2015.
The National Prosecuting Authority announced on Jul 24 that it would appeal Pistorius' "shockingly too lenient" jail sentence for the murder.
