Egypt’s late parliamentary election postponed until further notice

March 22, 2015 - EGYPT

Egypt was due to hold the first phase of an election to replace the legislature dissolved by the army in 2012, but the court ruled that the election law was unconstitutional.

Egypt has been without a parliament since July 2013, leaving successive presidents to rule by decree.

The results had been expected to cement President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi's hold on the political system. The former army chief is seen as overcoming the instability that has afflicted Egypt since 2011, a useful image on polling day.
