Cuba holds annual Habano Cigar Festival

The 13th annual Habano Cigar Festival is the largest international meeting for lovers of the most famous tobacco in the world. The five-day celebration regularly attracts some 1500 producers, distributors and businessmen, as well as large numbers of interested amateurs and tourists. A venue for announcing new brands, the 2011 festival promises to unveil new cigars designed especially for women - such as the Cohiba and Romeo y Julieta brands. Despite American trade sanctions against Cuban products, cigars remain one of the country's leading exports - regularly generating over US $50 million a year in revenue.

A venue for announcing new brands, the 2011 festival promises to unveil new cigars designed especially for women - such as the Cohiba and Romeo y Julieta brands. Despite American trade sanctions against Cuban products, cigars remain one of the country's leading exports -; regularly generating over US $50 million a year in revenue. Attendees will have the chance to taste the new cigars, visit plantations and factories, roll their own leaves and experience first-hand the secrets of a deep-rooted centuries-old tradition. The welcome night is to be held at the Gran Teatro de La Habana, where the nominations for the 'Premio Habano'; awards are announced alongside a private concert by Grammy-winning Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés. The closing of the Festival will be held on Feb 25 with the Gala Dinner that includes the traditional auction. The majority of the festival takes place at the Convention Centre in Havana, with some social events, and an award ceremony, taking place at the Karl Marx Theatre.
