Tentative trial date set for occupiers of wildlife refuge in Oregon

A tentative date has been set to try the defendants in a federal case involving the armed occupation of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. The trial, probably in Portland, could see 25 defendants accused of impeding the work of federal officers at the refuge through force, intimidation and threats. The occupation, to protest against federal control of public land, began on Jan 2 and lasted 41 days.

Oscar Pistorius re-sentenced after stiffer conviction

April 18, 2016 - SOUTH AFRICA

Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee athlete known as Blade Runner, is due back in court to be re-sentenced for shooting girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death in 2013. On Dec 3 the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein accepted arguments from state prosecutors and changed Oscar Pistorius’ earlier manslaughter conviction to murder. He now faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.
