NORWAY *16 Apr 2012 Norwegian accused of massacre expected to go to trial
(*New date)Attorneys and court officials involved in the upcoming trial of confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik agree that his trial should soon Their challenge will be finding a courtroom that is large enough: there is massive public interest and the trial is likely to be open to the public. Breivik who admitted to killing 77 people in an Oslo bombing and an island shooting spree in Jul 2011. He might be found mentally unfit to stand trial. A second assessment of his mental health is pending.

Court-appointed experts found Breivik legally insane on 29 Nov 2011.

To date, the authorities have resisted giving Breivik a public forum to air his views, and have kept him in isolation. Many of the pre-trial hearings have been held behind closed doors. Breivik confessed to bombing Norway's government headquarters in Oslo and carrying out a massacre on the island of Utøya outside Oslo. Breivik has said the attacks in July were aimed at launching a war against the politicians who allow creation of multi-cultural societies.

Prosecutors, defense counsel and attorneys for survivors and their families are resisting an entertainment venue, such as Oslo Spektrum or Telenor Arena, according to Norway International Network. They feel that locations normally used for entertainment would not be appropriate for such a serious trial. (WRITE-THROUGH UPDATE Jan 2012)
