Justin Trudeau gets comic book treatment

August 31, 2016 - CANADA

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will appear in cartoon form on the cover of an alternative issue of the Marvel comic, Civil War II: Choosing Sides. Trudeau, a one-time boxer and nightclub bouncer before becoming a world leader, will be depicted in Maple leaf-adorned boxing gear advising a Canadian superhero team.

He is featured smiling, sitting relaxed in the boxing ring in black shorts and red boxing gloves. Puck, Sasquatch and Aurora, who are members of the Canadian superhero squad Alpha Flight, cluster around him. Iron Man, arms crossed, scowls in the corner.

According to CBC, the story involves a mysterious new Marvel character, Ulysses, who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy.

The Canadian broadcaster observes that Trudeau is following in his father's footsteps in more ways than one. His turn as a comic book hero comes nearly 40 years after former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau appeared in Volume 120 of The Uncanny X-Men, another Marvel comic.
