JK Rowling’s Harry Potter spin-off movie and book released

November 18, 2016 - UNITED STATES

Warner Bros. Pictures releases Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, a Harry Potter spin-off, with JK Rowling's screenplay debut launched in book form the following day. Harry isn't in the movie, but Rowling is banking on fans' unquenchable appetite for Harry's magical world.

Warner Bros. describes the movie adaptations of Rowling's novels as the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

Set in New York in the 1920s, the new film stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as writer and magizoologist Newt Scamander. He attended the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Highlands of Scotland as a youth, well before Harry's time there. Scamander visits New York to find and document magical creatures for a Hogwarts textbook, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. The new movie and book chronicle his adventures among the city's secret community of witches and wizards, some 70 years before Harry Potter reads the handbook in school.

Other cast members include Katherine Waterson, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jenn Murray, Faith Wood-Blagrove and Colin Farrell.

The film is expected to have an IMAX 4k and 3D release.
