GERMANY 14 Nov 2012 - 28 Apr 2013 Best Picture exhibition honors Oscars
An exhibition titled: "And the Oscar goes to ... 85 years of Best Pictures" opens on Nov 14 at the German Film Museum in Frankfurt and moves to Los Angeles for three months from June. The exhibition, which focuses on the importance of the Oscar trophy and the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is the world's first comprehensive exhibition devoted to the competition. The Academy opened its archives for the show. The exhibition will feature the Best Film category, the only one in which all of the approximately 6,000 Academy members decided on nominations as well as winners.

The Academy treasure trove includes an abundance of costumes, production sketches, storyboards, casting comments, original posters, scripts, letters, and photos.

A movie has been chosen to win the prestigious award for Best Picture every year since the inception of the Oscars. Nearly 500 films have been nominated for this award, most of which won numerous other awards. Actually, only three films (Grand Hotel, Mutiny on the Bounty, and Broadway Melody) won Best Picture without winning another award, and Grand Hotel is the only winner to be nominated for only Best Picture. Conversely, three films in the history of the Oscars have won all of the Top 5 awards (Picture, Director, Leading Actor, Leading Actress, and Adapted/Original Screenplay): It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Silence of the Lambs. Of the three, only The Silence of the Lambs won just those five awards.
