Coal and gold sectors begin wage talks

Wage talks in the coal and gold sectors are due to begin. In April 421 workers at Anglo American's coal mine downed tools over recruitment changes and safety.

April 7, 421 members of the National Union of Mineworkers downed tools at a mine operated by Anglo American's coal unit, calling for removal of the mine's general manager over changes in recruiting and safety issues related to loading.

Anglo American plc is a multinational mining company, the world's largest producer of platinum, with around 40% of world output, and a major producer of diamonds, copper, nickel, iron ore and metallurgical and thermal coal. It has operations in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and South America.
